Foundations of Public Speaking

As part of the Lappin Foundation’s commitment to leadership development for teens, the Lappin Foundation and Salem State University are pleased to offer Foundations of Public Speaking, a practical course that helps to develop public speaking skills.  The non-credit course is free, and a certificate from Salem State University will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

There are countless benefits to developing public speaking skills, including:

  • Building leadership skills
  • Gaining confidence speaking in front of an audience
  • Developing skills to be an inspirational and persuasive speaker
  • Enhancing career prospects

Classes will be held on Wednesdays, October 2, 9, 16, and 23 on the campus of Salem State University, and will be taught by Salem State faculty.  Session 1 will take place from 4:30-6:50 p.m. and Session 2 will be held from 7 p.m.-9:20 p.m.

Content includes: principles of public speaking with an emphasis on informative and persuasive speeches; speech writing; techniques in delivering an informative/persuasive speech; and presenting a speech.
