The Howard Steven Feffer Memorial Scholarship is a lasting legacy given in loving memory of Howard Steven Feffer, who sadly passed away at the young age of 19 from a brain tumor in 1982. The $2,000 scholarship is funded by Howard’s sister Judith Feffer and it is administered by Lappin Foundation. Judith Feffer will make the final decision about the scholarship recipient.

The scholarship is need-based and will be awarded annually to a Jewish student who:

• Lives in Lappin Foundation’s North Shore service area or is a member of a temple in Lappin Foundation’s North Shore service area
• Is planning to attend a college, university, trade school or continuing education during the 2022-2023 school year
• Is a student in good standing

The money will be sent directly to the institution of higher learning that the scholarship recipient plans to attend. Recipients may request the continuation of the scholarship in years to follow if they maintain a 2.8 average.

The application packet consists of the online application and a character reference letter. The reference letter should be written by someone who can attest to the applicant’s character. The letter should not be written by family members or friends. The letter should be emailed to dcoltin@lappinfoundation.org. Applications are due by May 16, 2022.

The scholarship recipient must submit their final high school transcript and a copy of the college/university tuition bill prior to the scholarship funds being sent directly to the institution of higher learning.

“The Zakhar Vayntrub Memorial Scholarship in Engineering is a lasting legacy given in loving memory of Zakhar Vayntrub. Zakhar was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and studied engineering in college. Since 1999 until his retirement Zakhar worked as a civil engineer at the NYC Department of Transportation Bridges Division. He was passionate about his work, he put his heart into his projects. His favorite part of the job was going on field to inspect bridges, and he was instrumental in maintaining the city’s vital infrastructure. Outside of work, Zakhar enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hiking, and camping. He loved spending time with his family, and more than anything else he enjoyed quiet minutes of laughter with his three grandchildren. Zakhar had so many plans for his retirement when his life was abruptly cut short by COVID in April 2020. As I celebrate my dad’s life and legacy, I know he would have been happy and proud to help educate future generation of engineers.”   Elizabeth Vaynshteyn

The $3,000 scholarship is funded by Mr. Vayntrub’s daughter Elizabeth Vaynshteyn and is administered by Lappin Foundation. Elizabeth Vaynshteyn will make the final decision about the scholarship recipient.

The scholarship is need-based and will be awarded annually to a Jewish student who meets one of the following criteria:

1. Is graduating high school in 2022 and is planning to attend a college or university in 2022 and who plans to study engineering

2. Is currently an undergraduate student studying engineering

3. Is currently a graduate student studying engineering

The money will be sent directly to the institution of higher learning that the scholarship recipient plans to attend in 2022.

Jewish high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students who live on the North Shore or Greater Boston area and who are students in good standing, are invited to apply.
